The silence between heartbeats

There is a hush that lives between heartbeats,

a fragile kingdom where sorrow learns to kneel,

and love, too heavy to carry,

folds itself into silence.

I have wandered there

through corridors of half-remembered warmth,

where echoes wear the scent of someone I once loved,

and every memory hums like a hymn

for the things that almost were.

The quiet drips slow,

like candle wax over unspoken words,

like blood from a wound that forgot to close.

It is not peace no,

peace is merciful.

This is something crueler,

something holy,

something that makes a temple out of ache.

I can hear time stutter,

the clock afraid to move forward,

and in that pause,

I feel everything I’ve tried to forget

the laughter that left fingerprints,

the touch that lingers like the scent of rain

long after the storm is gone.

How still the world becomes

when the heart hesitates,

when grief hums beneath the ribs

like a secret refusing to die.

Even the stars seem to hold their breath

as if they, too, remember a love

that outlived its echo.

And when the heartbeat finally returns,

it feels wrong

too loud, too alive,

like resurrection without permission.

It reminds me that silence is not empty

it is full of ghosts

wearing the faces of everything I’ve lost.

So I let it linger,

that sacred, unbearable stillness

the silence between heartbeats

where I am no one’s,

where pain becomes poetry,

and every pulse that follows

feels like betrayal.
