Colours of silence

Silence isn’t empty

It hums in shades the world forgets to see.

A soft grey sigh between two breaths,

A bruised blue lingering where words once lived.

It drips from ceilings of unspoken things,

Floods the corners of my chest

A quiet, stubborn tide

That carries the ghosts of everything unsaid.

Some days, it’s white

Like the calm before tears,

Too pure, too blinding,

The kind of peace that hurts to hold.

Other days, it’s red

Rage swallowed whole,

A pulse beating against the cage

Of a throat too proud to tremble.

And sometimes, it’s gold

When the silence feels earned,

When solitude glows

Like forgiveness finally found its way home.

I’ve learned that silence speaks

In a thousand unpainted tones

In glances that linger,

In hands that almost reach,

In the hush between heartbeats

That dares to sound like peace.

So I sit with it

This palette of quiet,

This language without vowels

And let it colour me

In every hue I never said aloud.
