THE ROSE

The day of departure came and

you left, leaving nothing in my hand,

but a rose, which was a sign,

that once you were mine.

Take away memories of our time together,

let it be ended once and forever.

Why gave me the wounds which never healed?

Why gave me the scars which never faded?

Why leave me with this ravenous void?

Why make me a man so cold and jaded?

How do I explain to my heart?

You were never meant to be a part.

It was all a joke, I couldn’t guess.

I was a real fool, I do confess.

Now you are happy with someone new,

never knowing that this heart beats only for you,

and as I always was, I am happy for you.

Now, there’s only one thing I crave.

On my last day,

with your own hands,

lay this rose by my grave.
