The night we met

The night we met, the stars aligned

The Aquarian and the Gemini were dancing,

Dancing to the beat of two gracious hearts.

Everything stood still; time, truth and thoughts.

I was not nervous till I heard his rustic voice over the phone right before we met,

“Would you prefer flowers or a plant?”

The synapse in my brain was impressed already

And then came the grand meeting

My visceral heart beating louder and louder

The intensity of each beat like a shooting star

It was calming and electrifying all at once.

I extended my arm to the most beautiful bouquet of burnt orange roses

My attention slowly moved to the gentle giant in front of me.

As we sat down and began to spin stories of our lives, I knew

The night we met,

I had met my best friend

The twilight sky set the stage for an intellectual connection

As the sharpness of the cool breeze kissed our brown skin

We laughed and cried all at once

Marveling at how lucky we were

To have found a place to rest, an anchor.

Sometimes love will come and sit at your front door

Unexpected but solicited

Amidst the storm

Amidst the smiles

And if you’ve loved yourself long enough

You will be ready,

The night we met,

I knew that my visceral heart had finally found a home.
