The Echo of Arpino

Song of Rock, History and Memory

Silver wave

olives embedded in the rock.

The earth curves,

cry of stone,

backbone

roofs scattered on the karstic hill

navigate the azure,

the sky of the Ernici.

Up there the Apennine closes the eternal world,

the horizon breathes in silence.

Here time flourishes.

Men inside history:

Gaius Marius in bronze,

light in the word of Cicero.

They are not forgotten anchors,

it is living marble,

it is flesh upon the stones.

Voices rise

in the alleys wide with wind,

ancient greeting,

people who taste of rock.

Under the arch of millennia

flavors and altars live.

Blood and grain,

scent of bread,

gold in the wine

sets the morning ablaze.

Wild oregano

on the skin of the earth

splits the stone,

infinite fragrance in the heart.

Nature

wild mother,

infatuated root

spouse of the eternal song.

The green laurel

drinks the ancient myth,

smoke rises slowly from

chimneys stretched out at evening.

The soul stripped of everything

breathes the immense silence

in the womb of the night,

memory in the wind,

infinity and immense dwelling.
