Spring That Lasts Forever

The adolescent never dies in them, those who are rebellious in nature;

They hardly mature or attain manhood and accept things as they are.

They are like the eternal spring-transcending, rejuvenating;

Hope retains it, by nature, by form, by abstraction.

Joy can transform it, spread it, and even enchant.

How can a mortal be so obsessed with the eternity of spring?

What kind of joy could eternity bring to us?

That land, tree, sea, sky-are those always full with fruits, fish, and birds?

Oh, I guess I have the answer, but not the spring in me to realize it.

I too live-not in body, but in your thoughts.

I might poke and tickle you a bit, and for you bring joy or sorrow,

Which I never intend to be.

But do I have it to deny or accept,

That I am not the spring,

As one like you who knows that

The spring must end-

Not as an end to itself, but for a new spring to shine.
