When it gets hard to love me

When it gets hard to love me,

Love me more than before.

Love me deeper and deeper each day,

Until you reach down to my core.

When it gets hard to love me,

That’s when I need you most;

To hold me tightly in your arms

And chase away the ghost.

When it gets hard to love me,

In the silence and the dark;

Place your hand upon my heart

And re-ignite the spark.

When it gets hard to love me,

Don’t let yourself pull away.

Rather, keep me close to you,

By finding a reason to stay.

When it gets hard to love me,

Don’t let me struggle through.

Whisper words in my ear each day

And I promise, I will believe you.

When it gets hard to love me,

There’s one thing I need you to know;

I love you, deep inside my soul,

Though it’s sometimes difficult to show.

When it gets hard to love me,

And the walls are closing in;

Remember how it felt once,

And begin to love me again.

When it gets hard to love me,

I really need you to be strong

And, no matter what else happens,

Provide me with a place where I feel I belong.
