Puppets on a thread

Soulless bodies as if in a trance

Awaiting the audience s applause

Hoping for that one fair chance

Hanging by the thread they dance.

I look at them and question my being

Lost in a maze without purpose or zeal

Cold as stone, is the heart it seems

Yet it searches for hope and a dream

Pale and puny, yet they amuse!

Then why can’t I push away the blues?

And forget the deeply painful bruise

Be brave like Sisyphus and choose.

Aren’t we here to play the part?

No matter how many times we are pushed back to the start

It is but the stubbornness of the heart

That keeps me hanging like a puppet on a thread.
