Might of the mind

Original Submission by Kirsty Brand

Might of the mind

Two men set forth on a journey

Where few others had yet dared to tread

For peril breathed fiercely and menace lived wildly

Down paths fraught with troubles and dread

The first man was met by a woman

Clad only in silver and white

Her words fell like whispers, her voice sweet with song:

“You shall prosper and conquer your plight”

The second man came to a clearing

Where a figure stood cloaked all in black

Its venomous tongue licked the air as it hissed:

“You shall falter; you shall perish- turn back”

A seed of belief had been planted

Nestled safe in the heart of each man

One watered and fed with the thought of “I can’t”

The other with the thought of “I can”

Through treacherous waters they waded

Amongst ravenous beasts they did go

The first man retained both his vigour and pace

While the second grew weaker and slow

As night cast its ebony blanket

The woman’s bright light led the way

But through darkness the second man stumbled and fell

As the black figure led him astray

Just one emerged unbowed as victor

His faith and conviction enshrined

Through adversity, thought winged the bird of success

It was all in the might of the mind
