How Beautiful

And when winter stings

and spring is farther than salvation

you use us as leverage.

Your harsh words and actions kick us in the stomach.

The back of your hand is blunt.

We collapse into the mud… we die.

And when spring returns,

and your disposition is kinder,

it will have never happened.

Flowers will grow from our ribs

and you will say,

“how beautiful”
