Goodbye my love

I turned from your arms to chase a light that had no warmth-

a lantern held by a man who called himself a sun

but burned only to watch me blister.

Now every road circles back to your door,

but my hands have forgotten how to knock.

If I cannot crawl across the wreckage of my own choices

to press my ruined mouth to your waiting hands,

then let the man who stole me finish his work:

melt down what's left of my wanting

and pour it into a shape that will never hold you again.

I am leaving you, my love.

But leaving is already a ghost in my throat.
