Battle Dress

I wear my clothes like armour,

Stitched from silence and steel.

You won’t find my midriff bare,

Nor softness left to feel.

This fabric is not fashion

But a spell work of my will –

Each thread a quiet boundary,

Each fold a force held still.

What harm is hiding features

In shadows soft and deep?

Why must I bare my story

For comfort you can keep?

If you must judge, then judge me

By the art I choose to show –

The hemline cut with purpose,

The hood that whispers “no.”

My body is my canvas,

My presence is my shield,

And the power lies in shaping

The way my self is revealed.

So, look, and see what’s given,

The rest is mine to keep.

The battle isn’t beauty

But the secrets I let sleep.
