Hope - The Heart's Silent Anchor

In the quiet chambers of the chest,

Where weary spirits seek their rest,

There lies a small and steady thing,

A bird that does not need to wing.

It does not shout, it does not cry,

It does not ask the heavens why,

It sits beneath the heavy tide,

With nowhere left to run or hide.

When storms arise and waters swell,

And shadows ring the evening bell,

The world may shake and fall away,

Into a sea of ashen gray.

But deep within the pulsing core,

Far beneath the ocean floor,

A golden chain is forged in light,

To hold us through the longest night.

It is not made of steel or stone,

Nor is it something we can own,

It is a gift, a quiet breath,

That whispers life in face of death.

We often think that hope is flight,

A soaring spark, a beam of light,

But true hope is a heavy grace,

That keeps us in our rightful place.

When winds of doubt begin to blow,

And pull us where we should not go,

The anchor bites into the sand,

To keep us close to solid land.

It does not move, it does not yield,

It is the heart’s own hidden shield,

It is the weight that keeps us deep,

While all the world is fast asleep.

In spring, it is the hidden seed,

Providing everything we need,

It waits beneath the frozen ground,

Where not a single soul is found.

In summer’s heat and burning sun,

When all the work is nearly done,

It cools the blood and calms the mind,

Leaving the frantic world behind.

When autumn leaves begin to fall,

And shadows stretch against the wall,

The anchor holds the thinning line,

A promise of a grand design.

And when the winter chills the bone,

And we are feeling all alone,

The anchor glows with inner heat,

Making our broken lives complete.

Hope does not use a thousand words,

It isn’t found in singing birds,

It’s found in silence, thick and deep,

In promises we mean to keep.

It’s in the way a mother hand,

Guides a child across the sand,

It’s in the breath before the leap,

The mountain that we mean to steep.

It is the “yet” within the “no,”

The “yes” that helps the spirit grow,

It is the bridge across the rift,

The subtle, slow, and holy shift.

We hold the rope with bleeding palms,

Through thunderclaps and holy psalms,

We wonder if the chain will break,

For every heavy step we take.

But hope is stronger than the fear,

It draws the distant future near,

It says that though the night is long,

The morning carries its own song.

It is the reason why we stand,

And reach for an unseen hand,

It is the logic of the soul,

That makes the shattered pieces whole.

Beneath the noise of daily strife,

Beneath the vanity of life,

The anchor rests in quiet trust,

Above the ashes and the dust.

It knows that waves are only waves,

That love is stronger than the graves,

It knows that every storm must pass,

Like shadows over summer grass.

So let the winds of sorrow howl,

Let the hungry shadows prowl,

You have a weight within your breast,

That gives the tossing spirit rest.

You are not lost upon the sea,

You are exactly where you’re free,

For hope is not a wishful sky,

Or dreams that simply pass us by.

It is the anchor, firm and true,

That ties the universe to you,

A silent strength, a holy bond,

Reaching for the great beyond.
