A Moment of Luster

To be remembered

Is to be like a dimmed candle being lit anew;

Some days the candle stays alight—

Some days it is put out

By a shameless gust of wind;

As if I were suddenly a stranger

To everyone I had ever known.

But suddenly

I receive a notification:

Have you eaten yet?

And suddenly, the candle is lit again.

Have you reached home yet?

The candle is lit again.

This reminded me of you!

The candle is lit again.

Let’s do this together someday.

The candle is lit again.

Perhaps it was never about how many times

The candle was put out;

Or how many times

I had felt forgotten, lost, alone.

But rather how many times

The candle is relit

And the people

Who light the candle again.

As long as the connection matters,

Because what matters to people

Will never be forgotten.
