A Child of Nine
A child of just nine, scorched with the mark of the devil –
A witch! A whore! No, worse than a whore! A slut,
Thrust into the jagged claws of shame and apathy
Being pulled at the nipple, forced lips hungrily gouging at me,
Only a child of nine
Prayers for a sleep-drunken death never answered.
The lovely virgin skin of mine marbling the bath water with scarlet,
Surely, God had seen the blade dance across me,
Felt the blood’s sting rush to the surface
He had watched calloused hands grab me in the dark, snarling at me like a wolf starved
He had watched those cigarette-stained fingers rip up the skirt of my youth,
And plunge into my dignity –
Surely, He had wept at the sight?
Now, I will pay in a thousand lives with a thousand of my bodies
With my pouted blowjob lips and my perky tits,
Arched to perfection each time, laced and perfumed,
My performance ending in a fabricated crescendo,
For scraps of his decency, for the softness of his hands
And in the darkness, I will be visited again
A whispering shadow, a drooling blurred figure
Summoning me into its screaming chasm
I will follow it
I will not!
I can’t
I must
It will take me to that girl in the bath,
A girl of nine, a lamb for the slaughter
Marked before she knew it
It will look at me and grin,
Its mouth bloody with my pride
And I will scoop that girl out of the bath
I will hold her trembling hands and slit her throat myself
I have seen the devil’s filthy face,
And it is in every man - it is in God! hiding under the gaudy halo and feathers
And when I see Him, I will bring him that girl of nine
She will soak his paradise with slick blood
The stench will turn away all those saved
She will be reborn as a lamb and I will kill her over
I will lay her body at His feet,
And stain His robes with copper
I will hang her upon His cross, so He may understand
His unanswered prayers were not acts of salvation
For the girl of only nine
