पृथ्वी की रुकी हुई नब्ज़

धूप ने धरती की नस-नस में किरचों-सी आग चुभाई है,

फटती मिट्टी की फीकी देह में जल ने आँख बचाई है,

नदी ने विष की नीली स्मृति अपनी देह में समाई है,

वन की वीणा मौन पड़ी है; यह कैसी शाम उतर आई है।

वृक्षों की छालों में वर्षों की वाचा गहरी सिलती है,

पर्वत की पेशानी पर वर्षा की रेखा धीमे खिलती है,

पवन पुरानी राख उलटकर बीते मौसम गिनती रहती है,

मौन कली की बंद जुबान भी खोई सदी से मिलती है।

हमने नदियों की कलाई बाँध, उसे अनुशासन का नाम दिया,

लोहे, धुएँ, शीशे को हमने उजले कल का मान दिया,

शहर बढ़े तो चिड़ियों के हिस्से का आकाश सिकुड़ता गया,

विकास कहकर हमने अपने ही श्वास-वनों को नीलाम किया।

फिर धरा ने पूछा, “घायल मैं हूँ, या भीतर से तुम घायल हो?”

“सूखा वन बाहर कम है; पहले अपने लोभ तले निर्जल हो।”

तब जाना, मिट्टी केवल मिट्टी नहीं; तुम भी उसी का अवयव हो,

जिस जल को बाँध रहे थे, उसके बिना सबसे पहले विफल हो।

ऋतु अब आती है जैसे किसी टूटी घड़ी का गलत इशारा,

कोयल की खाली डाल सुनाती शोर के भीतर शोक हमारा,

मौन यहाँ निष्क्रिय नहीं; यह धीमे-धीमे लिखा गया अभियोग है,

जब पक्षी चुप हो जाते हैं, तब फटता है आकाश दोबारा।

फिर भी नदी बहती रहती, काली फेन में चाँद बचाती हुई,

अपनी ही घायल देह तले थोड़ी उजली याद जलाती हुई;

उद्धार नहीं, बस यह समझ: जो प्रकृति पर बीता, वह हम पर बीता,

अब हर साँस में थोड़ा-सा वन कम है, थोड़ी-सी राख समाई हुई।
