काल की शेष कली

कोहरे की किरचें छिटकती हैं; भीतर

भीगी राख-सी कुछ कथाएँ फिर तपती हैं।

वे मरी नहीं, मौन की मोम में बस ढली थीं;

छूते ही उँगली जलती है, आँखें नम रहती हैं।

समय, यह सूखा माली, पत्ते चुन ले जाता;

स्मृति, यह गीली मिट्टी, गंध बचा लाती है।

मैं किसका हूँ: जो था, जो हूँ, या जो बनता जाता?

उत्तर में अपनी ही धड़कन देर तलक सुनाई आती है।

मैं जानता हूँ, याद सीधे लौटकर नहीं आती;

टाँकती भी है, काटती भी, अपने ही ढंग से गढ़ती है।

क्या हर स्मरण ही सत्य? नहीं, कभी दया, कभी धोखा।

क्या भूलना ही द्रोह? नहीं, कभी टूटी श्वास बचाती है।

जैसे नदी में चाँद उतरकर भी पूरा नहीं उतरता,

वैसे अतीत मेरे भीतर कल भी है, और कल भी।

अब जान लिया, काल की शेष कली यूँ ही नहीं झरती;

समय बाहर से बीत जाता है, स्मृति भीतर उसे खिलाती है।
