Yellow Stars

Original Submission by Ayesha

Yellow Stars

I looked up at the night sky,

And saw the yellow stars,

Reminding me of a home

That, for me, was too far.

In the glow of the stars,

I saw beautiful flaws,

And wondered what I had to do

To return to where I once was.

They shine and they sparkle,

Their beauty blinds everyone,

But only I know what hides

Behind the burning sun.

I remember what it was like

Before the stars began to shine,

Before home became too far,

Before I lost what once was mine.

The wind was soft and gentle,

The nights were calm and still,

Back when silence brought me peace,

And not an empty chill.

I used to know the feeling

Of laughter without fear,

But now the world feels quieter

With every passing year.

Sometimes I close my eyes

And pretend I’m there again,

Walking through old memories

I know I cannot mend.

The stars still glow above me,

As if nothing ever changed,

While everything I once called home

Feels distant and estranged.

And maybe one day, somehow,

I’ll stop asking why,

And learn that not all broken things

Are meant to fully die.

So, I still look at the night sky,

And search between the stars,

Hoping home still waits for me,

No matter how far.
