Why’d You Have To Go and Make Things So Complicated?

When I was young, there was a song on the radio

That went “why’d you have to go and make things so complicated?”

That was how I learnt the word “complicated”.

But then I learnt: -

That “cough” is pronounced “cough”.

But “rough” is pronounced “rough”.

Or when my first boyfriend cheated

When he told me I was enough.

Or when I asked my dad if he loved my mom

And he said no.

Because if love is so serious,

How can that be a joke?

Or when my grandma passed away

And I couldn’t cry

I started contemplating everything

Like the meaning of life.

I learnt that black isn’t black

And white isn’t white

It was always grey, and then

I truly understood what “complicated” meant.
