Whispers of a Map

Under the azure mains and sky,
where in relief we all may sigh.
Where the mountains are both small and great,
fjords and gorges exist among straits.
The Terpsichorean sounds of rivers, both strong and frail,
proves patently their grace, sans pareil.
Beyond the reach of Hercules’s lightning bolts as he threw,
with beauty unlimited, fields of alluvium renew.
Lie the vast continents with riches so great,
with many broad and deep faults to minerals innate.
Through this world’s vast dominion,
plateaus and highlands take a pavillion.
We have serene lakes and rivers numbered more than a million,
and landforms through erosion and deposition change like the epithelium of a chameleon.
Forms of sedimentation can bridge gaps,
other creations may include beauteous salt traps.
Such things of glamour, our imaginations entrap,
all are covered in the convenience of a map.
