The Girl in The Mirror

By Tanvi Sherikar

A little girl of ten

With hopes in her eyes

Dreamt of a life

That was once impossible to find

As she grew up , she heard these stories

These stories of her mother, her life journey

The more this teenager pushed herself, striving to be better

That was all she wanted to achieve: to be a go-getter

Then came the time when confidence did not come so easily

She looked in the mirror, and she did not see pretty

So she hid herself away from the world

The same world that she once wanted to take over

They say time heals everything, which is partly true

In her case, it took time to heal the wounds

But her inspiration made her feel so empowered

She rose from the ashes like there was no tomorrow

So she sat in front of the mirror

Looking at her little self

That little girl of ten

With hopes in her eyes

Looked more confident than ever

Knowing her self-worth

Ready to take on the world

The same world she once feared

The same world she now wants to conquer
