WHAT ARE WE LEAVING OUR CHILDREN?

There are tears in my eyes my children

As I look at a world in pain.

When you grow up my children

Will there still be a rainbow after the rain?

What are we leaving our children?

I ask in deep despair.

We poison the fish in the rivers

And we thicken and sour the air.

There is hurt in my heart dear children

As I think of what lies ahead.

Will it ever reach the stage

Where God says “Mankind is dead”?

What will you inherit my children

From the older generation?

A world that is slowly dying

Or a final conflagration?

There’s a prayer on my lips my children

That we may regain our sight

So that when you grow up my dearest

Your children may still see the light.

May God give us insight and wisdom

To turn back before it’s too late

For what will we leave our children

If we tarry and hesitate?
