Today I Saw
Today I saw the masses protest
Against the leaders they’ve grown to detest.
Anger, wrath and unrest,
I felt pride as fresh air filled my chest.
For I have known this time would come,
A feeling felt by all, I wasn’t lonesome.
We’ve thought it through and calculated the sum?
A new dawn will be celebrated with glasses of rum.
Today I saw a mother strike her son,
The boy didn’t look a day over one.
She just pulled the trigger of a gun
Faced towards herself, not knowing what she had done.
And when the adrenaline had finally worn,
She realized what she had torn:
The very thing she had born
Will come back to sting like a thorn.
Today I saw that my lover had left my side:
Left in her place a wall of pride,
A wall so high and incredibly wide,
I must admit I had cried.
Felt something to which I could not relate,
For it had been a simple twist of fate,
She’s gone and its far too late,
I have let her absence dictate.
Today I saw myself, my reflection mirrored.
As the light above me flickered.
All that I was had withered,
Like a snake the hatred slithered.
Of these feelings I must be free,
Such beauty my tainted eyes couldn’t see.
I would not let this hatred be
The final thing that lived in me.
