The tree with a hundred branches
September rolls around and the leaves begin to wilt,
The evenings turn colder, the night shines above all,
The tree with a hundred branches waits patiently,
Knowing the time has come for it to fall.
The children run in circles around it happily,
Unaware of what is to happen to the great tree,
The tree with a hundred branches waits patiently,
Knowing the time has come for it to break free.
The birds built their nests on its boughs,
The squirrels gather their food for the cold winter,
The tree with a hundred branches waits patiently,
Knowing the time has come for it to wither.
The villagers prepare for their yearly harvest,
They gather their scythes and sickles,
The tree with a hundred branches waits patiently,
Knowing the time has come for it to trickle.
The wind blows rapidly, the skies turn grey,
The sounds of machines roars over the town,
The tree with a hundred branches waits patiently,
Knowing the time has come for it to fall down.
Cranes and excavators line up against the tree,
Smashing down what once was the village tavern,
The tree with a hundred branches waits patiently,
Knowing the time has come for it to traverse.
The sun rises on a new horizon, the season now over,
The village wears silence where joy was before,
The tree with a hundred branches,
Waits patiently no more.
