The Roses I Lost

I bought you Roses,

Red as the love I carry,

Yet the weight of them grew heavier,

with each step closer to you.

You bought me roses?

How unfortunate I am,

to never get to feel them in my hands.

were they too fragile?

or was it the silence that crushed them

I had to leave them in the wind,

hoping the breeze,

would carry the scent to you.

Yet the distance was too great,

I would have taken them,

wilted or not,

It wasn’t the roses I wanted,

but the heart that bought them.

And yet we are here,

you with empty hands,

me with empty arms

a love we can’t hold.

Perhaps we were always

like those roses,

meant to bloom

but never truly belong

Still they were beautiful,

if only for a moment,

just like us.

Yes, just like us....
