The Lost Path

By Ananya Tiwari

endless photons make a single ray;

but ray’s blindness hides their way

we see a selfish beam unaware of them

who they held altogether now teared-up;

when people exclaimed how enchanting it looked

                 in the slit lamp

the light grew ignorant and let slip its aim;

mocked every entity in darkness and grew lame

went dwindling to a peculiar realm all blacked;

cried she when thought of her folly

               and the path she solemnly lacked

her radiance abandoned her for eons for grin;

now beseeched their souls to forgive her sin

too late to perform penance, grew short;

looked behind only to twitch as blackness shot

              and lost her chance to gleam again
