Swinging swords

That which we call the battlefield

Do you truly know for whom you kneel?

That which justifies the fight -

Stinging bullets and rabid dog bites.

Swinging swords clash against the shields,

Bodies lie flat and crosses yield.

Fighting for what they think is right

Or for a warm dinner tonight.

Who draws the line? Who pays the price?

Who sells the truth and names the sacrifice?

Swing your swords, defend your king

Bleed for a flag, die for nothing.

Say your prayers, fall into line

Your blood runs out, their hands stay dry.

The generals sleep behind their walls

While nameless men answer their calls.

A mother’s son, a stranger’s friend

Another life to justify the end.

Were you hungry? Were you cold?

Or were you simply bought and sold?
