Suicidal Note- Part 2

Poem

By: Charmine Hlongwane

I look down at my hands.

I’m bleeding.

I didn’t do anything.

I’m hurting.

My heart is pouring out my chest,

Looking for an escape,

A way out of my dark chest.

The chest that holds every pain, every anger, every sadness.

My heart is pouring out my chest,

The one that was stabbed multiple times…

By those I called my home.

By him, and her.

By them.

Why do you apologize and repeat what broke me?

Why tell me I’m not the problem but make me apologize?

Why tell me I’m not wrong but call me out for fighting for us?

You never loved me enough to stay with me.

To love me, care for me.

Look,

I’m bleeding.

I didn’t do anything.

I kept everything.

Let you do anything.

Now I’m bleeding.

But I didn’t do anything!

Oh, mother.

I never wanted you to go through this.

The world took what was left of me and now…

I’m bleeding.

I didn’t do anything.

Forgive me for leaving…

Father, don’t take me.

Let me see my kids.

Let me kiss my husband.

Let me call her my best friend.

Let him be like a brother to me.

Father, don’t take me…

Let my vulnerable body feel the sunrise.

Let my shiny eyes see sunset.

Let me feel the breeze of winter, the heat of summer,

Brushing against my skin.

Father, don’t take me

Let me build an empire,

Become a boss, an icon.

To be remembered for something great, at least

Oh, but Father…

I’m tired…
