Sticky

A glass bottle, crushed and

bestrewn, glimmers

on the brittle

green grass. Syrup clings

to the ring.

Two flies

appear from a distance.

Their wings hum silently.

The sun rises and falls. A herd

gathers. Buzzing, feasting.

The sugar sours.

A bruised apple, a fish, a hand-

flies don’t discriminate-taken apart

until they’re gone.

Clung together by honey,

even the inseparable

break.
