Rivers Without Words

It rains upon the hills

and in the heart remains

the pain of the bitter song,

rivers without words.

The ancient mud slides

upon hopes by now extinguished,

while the night swallows

the echo of what has been;

and the stones drink the weeping

of a sky without memory,

while time consumes

the steps of our return.

Cold is the remembrance that remains

among the voids of the walls,

a thread of smoke scattered

in the darkness of the valleys,

where we are shadows in the wind,

suspended in an infinite waiting,

in search of a dawn

that refuses to return.
