Oh mother of mine
What did it feel like
To carry the dreams and wishes of four
Plus one woken too early and unfinished?
What was it like to hold the weight
Of your whole world’s aspirations
In your arms?
To see your blood and hope rippling
In the rivers of sleepy eyes?
Sighing in the shallows of your breath,
Smelling the sweet softness of your skin?
Oh mother of mine,
When the time came to untie the fragile threads
That knotted and bound you together
And set each one free,
Did it tear a piece from you?
Like a kite tugged out of care worn hands
By an urgent and demanding wind?
Did you cry at the loss?
Or rejoice at the freedom
Flip flying from the banks through the blue sky
Finding its own path?
Oh mother of mine
Now, as you glance back at that strong current
Do you see that the dreams have formed shapes
Coloured by blue desires and purple love?
Did all your quiet wishes whispered to the wind come true?
I am you and you are me
And he and he and he
Did we fly?
Oh mother of mine
