My Massive Collection of Mistakes

Original Submission by Aneetha Johannes

My Massive Collection of Mistakes

I keep them all in boxes,

In the dusty corners of my mind,

each one labeled with regret,

each one heavier than they look.

They rattle when I walk,

a chorus of empty echoes trailing me,

reminding me of the promises broken,

and truths I was too afraid to hold onto.

Some are small…

like careless words tossed into silence.

Some are vast…

like bridges burned before I learned to swim.

I stack them higher and higher,

a crooked tower of could-have-beens,

leaning dangerously,

yet somehow still standing taller than trees.

And although they weigh me down,

they are mine…

a museum of missteps,

a testament to being human,

fragile and flawed,

trails I once walked,

That led me to where I am today,

Still searching for the light between the cracks…

At the back of my mind.
