My Fear to Forever

I could never fully understand my emotions…

They always seemed to get the best of me and really get in my way.

The blocked my full view of life,

Blinding me to see its potential.

But I realised, and came to understand,

That if you feel it in your chest, it’s fear.

If you feel it in your muscles, it’s anxiety.

If you feel it in your head, it’s anger.

Feel it in your stomach, it’s intuition.

In your mouth, it’s disgust.

In your throat, it’s sadness.

Your face, it’s shame.

But if you feel it all throughout your body…

Its happiness.

I used to feel you in my chest…

Warm, but harsh.

Spreading down into my muscles,

And balling up inside my head,

Building up together like matted hair.

Until eventually,

You sat in my throat,

Boiled, burned,

And entirely covered my face.

But now it’s not so specific…

Because I feel you everywhere.

From the hair on my head,

To the toes on my feet.

Like blood rushing through my veins,

And like the nerves wrapping around my body completely.

Electrocuting life into me.

You circuit my bloodstream,

And settle in my heart.

And now I finally understand my emotions…

I used to be all over the place,

Jumping from fence to fence,

Surrounded by barbed wire,

And never finding the four safe walls to call, “home”…

Until I looked beyond the the gate that separated me from you,

Reaching out with a curious mind and aching body…

Until my hands finally felt yours,

And our hearts gracefully intertwined.

And now ‘home’ is the words,

“I love you”…

It is every negative emotion I’ve ever felt,

Swallowed up by the warmth of you.

It’s what I’d say to you in my last and final breath,

Cupping your face in my hand, caressing your cheek.

I feel you throughout my entire body.

In my chest, into my muscles, inside my head, my throat and all over my face…

I feel whole.

You complete me,

Forever.
