May there be-

Original Submission by Yomna Abdelwahid

I plea at the sun and moon

about all my troubles,

how I won’t be here soon

as my life slowly crumbles.

Sat under a shallow tree

Naked, with its thirsty leaves.

I look up at the sky with glee

asking to be free

Free from all these feelings

joy, fear and whatnot

as I keep getting these beatings,

these feelings come closer

and tie to a knot.

The sun sometimes warms me,

reassurances granted by light

The moon sometimes cools me,

with dreams to sooth my night.

Yet my words were never truly heard

Waves shaped into an echo

burnt by the sun,

or blown by the moon away

as if they were on the run.

My hands lay on the fallen leaves

back leaning on the trunk

motionless I lay: my vision fixated on the

Sky.

To gouge those watchful starry eyes

out of that vast pit of dark blue

it would be a bliss

a refined move

marked by Holy tune.

They come and go

then go and come,

The same is done

cool and warm

They never learn

like pigs on a farm

Days pass

with lightning speed

my days go

like raging water

hoarse was my voice

weak was my strength

my eyes wide open

waiting, waiting and waiting

and For what? I did not know

It was all up to the sky.

It was only when I understood

They are not me, I am not them

It was only then I understood

Because I was me and they were them

That was only when

I rested my eyes

shut, unable to be opened

The curtains closed and all was done

My act on its end

It was only then that maybe.

Maybe,

Rain would fall

Thunder would strike

Flowers will bloom

and life would live on,
