Lunch with Paerata Bush

23rd April 2026

Sour dough baguette, oil of olive and vinaigrette

Cashew and Basil, salami too, a splendored meal

for two, and busy fussing round, the fantail

Comes in again, as days gone by, the house a place

To fly, from native stand of trees, my home can

press against, river risen breeze, and here it all is

Hush of whispering trees, the tiny life hides within

of winged fragile form, and skinks scuttle in sun

To warm the slenderest frame, to move, to be

At home, amongst the autumn leaves, and yet

No words are spoken, nor a song, just tiny punctured

breath, while all along a murmur blossoms,

from trees, with dark and private rooms, their place,

captured, in my eyes, to rest upon pillowed shapes,

canopy of trees!

Still, I sit and loosen thought, rest, melt away

Then whispers meet my ears, light proudly shows

me now, spreading arms of softened green, what sister

above in rotund form, can say to me ?

Why you are standing in your place, to speak the language

Song of ancient trees!
