If Tears Could Speak

IF TEARS COULD SPEAK
If these tears could speak,
They would tell of the trail of anguish
Left behind as they flow.
They would tell how far they have come,
From how deep they were summoned,
And how long the journey was.
If these tears could speak,
They would declare the deepest-seated secrets
Of the soul that even the heart does not know.
They would reveal the rough hands that choke the mind,
And the vulnerability
That never fully reaches the face.
If these tears could speak,
They would echo confusion and regret,
For they flow only forward, never backward.
These are tears that can never go back home.
They have been cast out,
Abandoned, never again to return.
If these tears could speak,
They would let out resentment.
Is this the only reason they were created—
To bear grief and torment?
To witness heartache and misery?
Alive only as proof of death and demise?
If these tears could speak,
They would lay bare what lies behind the eyes,
Caged safely inside skull and bone,
For none to see or judge.
Only the tears know why they run from there.
One day, these tears will recite their chronicles.
