Zainab Muhammad shares a poignant piece entitled "I Miss You Too Much and I’m Losin’ It" in the Poetry category of the Global Poetry and Creative Writing Competition 2026. This evocative work invites readers into an introspective journey through themes of loss, identity, and the struggle of self-worth. With intentional stylistic choices, Zainab masterfully captures the raw emotions and turmoil of a mind navigating the complexities of grief and personal disintegration.

About the Work

The poem "I Miss You Too Much and I’m Losin’ It" delves deeply into the emotional chaos and introspection of a soul grappling with loss. Zainab's use of lowercase and uppercase "I" serves as a powerful metaphor for identity and self-perception. The recurring phrase "lies become truer, no?" challenges the reader to reflect on the nature of self-deception and the struggle to maintain sanity amidst emotional upheaval. The vivid imagery and heartfelt confessions create a compelling narrative of vulnerability and authenticity.

A/N: Please note that the grammatical choices, punctuation, and lack of standard capitalization in this poem are entirely intentional artistic decisions. The text is purposely kept in lowercase, with a strict thematic distinction between the lowercase “i” and uppercase “I”. In this piece, “i” represents an identity that has lost its sense of self-worth and feels diminished, while “I” is reserved exclusively for a voice that feels more distinct or confident. I kindly request that the text, capitalization, and formatting be preserved exactly as written to protect the core themes of the poem.

Poem: I Miss You Too Much and I’m Losin’ It

my family, my friends, my strangers,

everyone told me, it will pass,

move on, accept your now.

i comforted myself with lies like these,

lies become truer, no?

i buried you in my closet,

i can’t burn the closet glued in my room,

i can’t summon a tsunami,

i can’t, i can’t, i can’t!!!

i hate this house filled with your voice,

i hate every reflective surface i pass,

i see my damn face and then i remember you,

i’m giving in to all the fuckery on my plate,

i’m acting chill:

lies become truer, no?

i’m turning into a pathetic sight,

i seem like an innocent prisoner;

i’m the culprit of my demise.

i’m sorry,

i’m not happy, i failed that task.

i’m breaking down little by little everyday,

i’m filling your space with suicidal amounts of caffeine,

i’m losing myself in the darkness of this room,

i’m breathing upon the window glass,

tracing your name in the waning mist,

perhaps your sky holds more dead sparkies.

i ran away from home, i can’t run away from me,

i feel lonely and pathetic,

i hate myself, yet i preach:

love yourself,

lies become truer, no?

stop telling me about donating one more chance,

stop telling me to compromise,

stop telling me to initiate,

stop it, stop it, stop it!!!

i’m losing my mind,

i’ll blow up all your precious relations,

i can’t do this anymore,

i’m broken- in all senses.

Dear Truth,

Please, Lie to me,

Please, Lie to yourself,

Please Lie, Truth.

hahahahaha,

you pathetic self!

i’m sorry,

forgive me.

that’s right,

beg and grovel!!

end me,

Master.

hahahahaha,

you pathetic self,

kill yourself, self!
