Original Submission by Ethan Naidoo

I chased

I chase and I chase and I chase and I chase

why am I in this stupid rat race

what happened to grace and walking our own pace

I fell in love with this place called the space between us

but your face made me hate it

so I chased

a taste was all it took to make me forget you were two-faced

by then it was too late the gate was open

I was running straight like I was eight again

back then I was satisfied having just ate

now I can’t relate

checkmate

you always looked good in green

I'd await the day you’d be in my arms

I’d fixate about the growth rate of something I never had

worth it’s weight in gold they’d say

good things come to those that wait

so does prostate

when did I start to want an estate

my name on a gold plate, my money hidden in Kuwait

it’s stalemate because you became my soulmate

I think we should see different people

I've started going on blind dates

it’s going great, turns out fate and hope are more than just bait

I found someone

without you I cant marry her but I can elope

you won’t get to be the rope around my neck anymore

I chase no more

I won’t ask for you

I won’t go to war for you, not even do a meaningless chore

you can call me a whore when I use you at the store

but when I tore I didn’t lose my value

I chase you no more

money I will not adore

true wealth is being on that shore holding her hand

it’s a dance floor when I have two left feet

screw your french door

greater men were born behind a barn door

you call it folklore

I will answer for my mentor

as beautiful as you are

the love of you is the root of all evil
