Hope in my most sorrowful hour

Original Submission by Ala' Majidah Tarifi

Hope in my most sorrowful hour

half moonshine, oh windward sky

you plant traipsing daisies in my most sorrowful hour.

yet still, i ask, what is it you receive in turn? could these

dreary ways have direction, and will my generous longings

strive for some reason unbeknownst to me? yet still,

you paint my blackest feelings with the brightest of colours,

and place roots in the nightmares i call lucid-dreaming.

yet still, i ask, could the stars you steal from the night

blind me near to catching my death?

would the fairy lights you dress me with betray my skin

and wrap my neck in a flurry of violence i believed only fathers possessed?

oh windward sky, you grant me cards of kindness that leave me

paper-cut to the bone, and yet still, i am learning slow,

how does one not stow salt to their wounds? but instead,

turn to you in my most sorrowful hour, and beg:

let me grow gently as the trusting daisies do.
