Sed The Sloth 3
Sed the sloth said …
4
“1! 2! 3! Race you up that tree!” Lucy hollers to Jimmy before the two bolt toward the trunk.
5
Both Lucy and Jimmy cherish nature. They spend plenty of time outdoors, hugging and climbing trees, imitating other creatures and beings, and sowing seeds along their journeys.
6
So, it comes as no surprise when Lucy and Jimmy dash straight to the backyard of their home away from home in Costa Rica. They hardly give a thought to where they’ll sleep, let alone unpack a single bag!
7
Pitter-patter, pitter-patter, pitter-patter! Lucy and Jimmy close in on the tallest and thickest cecropia tree, the very one Lucy marks just moments before their race.
8
“Splat! Splat!” Jimmy hops to one side of the cecropia trunk, Lucy to the other.
“Swish, swish!” Leaves rustle as Lucy and Jimmy scramble their way up the tree.
9
“Scritch, scratch!” Their nails scrape the bark.
“Crack!” Small branches snap.
10
“Whoa!” Lucy and Jimmy come to a complete halt as a sloth, no more than a few yards away, slowly and patiently makes its way through the cecropia’s understory.
11
“Look,” Lucy whispers. “Shhhh,” Jimmy hisses.(They observe the sloth, something simple)
12
“Look up,” the sloth chimes in. “Ahem!” Sed clears his throat before continuing: “Look down at what’s musslin’ around; ‘Tippity-tap, tippity-tap!’”
13
“Look to the side; you might catch sight of what flies by; ‘Flap-flap!’”
“Look to the other side; what’s out of sight may slip from your mind; “Fffft, fffft!’”
14
“What’s up can be down.”
“What’s down can be up.”
15
“What’s to the side can be on the other side.”
“What’s on the other side can be to the side.”
16
“Perspective is a lesson, not an impression to stick in the mud.”
“Life is malleable; fashion your golden horizons to align with what one dreams of when soaked in suds.”
17
Henceforth, as Sed bids Lucy and Jimmy farewell, they bid him goodbye. They went off ready to communicate with other cool creatures, while wondering how much more there is to see about nature.

About Oereishi
I write from my heart and soul. The pen guides me. The page is my canvas.
When all aligns, I channel feelings and visions into words, playing with diction and syntax. This liberates me. It inspires me. It awakens my unique voice.
Yet my story mirrors so many. I grew up in a world of love and misunderstandings: where miscommunication masquerades as silence, differences breed fear, and all dream—yet some only of supreme esteem.
As the oldest of four, I longed for a dog best friend. I crave tropical fruits: mangos, avocados, anything lush. I dream big: to support restorative ecosystems, seed a harmonious re-forested world, and befriend every being in ocean, forest, mountain, and beyond.
Between tree climbs and writing, I channel forest spirits and ancient energies. I heal hearts with pristine love. May you feel love. May you know joy again and again. I feel you.
