Generational Curse

Generational curse

Who could have predicted this

In your 60s and living in your childhood basement

It's home

but it's not your own

You're not you anymore

You're like some kind of distant clone

You just want to be left alone

How could anyone have ever known

There must have been a sign

you might have shown

But now you're grown

and addiction prone

communicating only in huffs and groans

You could say your problems began when you were born

But it was probably when some pervert

made your childhood a porn

I'm sure you were destroyed

Absolutely torn

You should have spoke up

But I know you were a kid

You probably didn't even realize what he did

until too much time had passed

But you did drugs

And quit

Then you relapsed

A few times actually at this stage

But it's never too late to turn the page

I know you have this rage

But it doesn't pay

And it's not worth it

at the end of the day

It's your life

and you're the only one

who can really fuck it up

You're 65

You're lucky you're still alive

Actually you're 66

That's older than two of your five siblings lived

But you didn't make it to their funerals

I can't imagine that doesn't take a toll

But that's the thing

You just keep digging holes

And then you drop in one

Like you fell off the face of the earth

You got to get it together man

I know this version of you

doesn't give justice

to what you're worth

Now I'm gonna tell you a secret

Life is nothing but hurt

Everyone struggles with the cards they've been dealt

Everything is relative

There's no better or worse

The one who hurt you won't fix you

You have to do the work

It's up to you to heal your wounds

And break a generational curse
