For Raf

My mama says if you could go to the other side,

I could too if I tried.

And, I bet that your mama knows how bad you must’ve felt,

so you swore to her you were hypnotized.

For all the times we called, we didn’t care where we were

but everytime i pass the Petron, you’re right where you are.

Closed set eyes, I count to five, could’ve slipped a note to change your mind

but a silent night hangs on you tight with a dream of coming back to her.

Lying in bed, pleasuring myself to our honeymoon

where you are my first

but once i’m done, it hurts.

I remember our distance

by time and on pictures.

God damn, your skin was real.

Now, I spite my hand.

You lent me the bouquet from the start

but I’m dressed outside the the chapel

counting all the letter “r”s.

And I wish you’d see me,

a glimpse or a feeling.

We’ll drive for hours, in eons,

speeding down a boulevard.

But that would be treason

even if you conceal it.

If you want engineering,

you know, damn well, who you’re supposed to be.

You’re a summit in the industry.

And soon, God will bless you with a family.

For all the times you called,

I never knew what to learn.

But, I’ll be waiting as a getaway.

Everytime i pass the street

we both know why hurts,

I’ll be waiting as a getaway.

On that drive with your lips awry

and a purpose lied ahead of time,

I’ll be waiting as a getaway

Even if your face reeks of contentment,

I’ll be waiting as a getaway.

It pains me to know

you’re never leaving that church

and I will be waiting as a getaway.

God, lead me in if you want me in,

not because i wanna see his face,

just so I can change.

I’ll be his groomsman any day

but not today.

I will be waiting as his getaway.
