Monstrance

I am a bleeder unconditioned

and well-fed yet the yank tears

bread slices on the silver platter;

In the morning, we mourn with the raspberry ade.

Brethren, why are your mouths so eager

to bespoke within sacred walls while the sistren—

a plaintiff no man ever broke—pour leaven

on the beige beginnings of a microcosmic nugget,

that which pleads the blood out in intervals?

Yet, the moment you interject

and reelect your violence into war,

my bleeding becomes a job; a number

in the afternoon, anesthetic to the brute strength

of those which carry the same burden.

My feet can no longer mark the ground with footsteps

as you serve me into men’s mouths; into end

and call it nigh to incomplete me

and my days with no rest.
