Every new September

The clock strikes zero,

and I suddenly feel the shift

like the world suddenly moved a little too quick

it’s not prominent,

but it’s there

the slight smell of rain lingering in the air,

and the trees shades turning from green to brown

Each morning I wake up with the urge of pouring coffee in my cup

I cast a glance outside and realize the sun has yet to show up

My outfit needs a scarf,

so I can hide in its warmth

The wind tousles my hair

and the cold tickles my nose to tell me he’s there

but only a fool would ask who

when you’re curled up in your sheets,

hoping it would share its heat

and if you still haven’t got the hint,

maybe try to blink,

and you’ll see he has invited himself in

and started to sing like Carole King

Your soul is filled with a warmth one can only describe as golden

and suddenly you remember,

that you only feel like this

every new September
