The Voice That Remembers
Inception of life with aurora — sweet,
The cake with radiant princesses at small feet.
A candied castle, its throne and fortress guarded,
Gracefully among the huge horde.
Then two through five — the charms fade,
Superficial smiles, in politeness, degrade.
Existence no longer gloried with grace,
Flames glow wanly, then abscond without a trace.
School begins — with a bouquet of welcome,
Flickers of happiness occurring seldom.
Bells break the familiarity of despise,
Innocence perishing with the goodbyes.
Adolescence arrives — inexplicably rigorous,
The heart, opinions, enthusiasm grow timorous.
No more cakes, nor candles, nor satisfaction —
Conditional love, reduced to transaction.
Eighteen, twenty-one — a rebellion,
Disregarded, termed as a hellion.
Yet some kind hands still offer,
And treasure it, submerged within a coffer.
Then adulthood — venture by day,
Offering others what the heart yearned, in an attempt to sway.
If the want were ever achievable by churn,
Never expecting anything in return.
Until — a voice, always present,
provides salvation from the torment.
Remembers your existence to be rejoiced,
And reaches the soul, never being foisted.
