One day someone’s gonna love you Like it’s as easy as breathing

In and out for them

But it’s not today

Dearest Matilda

Carry your tea and toast

Upstairs and make camp

Don’t put your head

Inside the oven yet;

Dearest Matilda

You can build your own family But perhaps you have had

All the love in the world

But a stomach that can’t

Digest the flavours,

Dearest Matilda perhaps you have Been starved for so long

The love tastes salty and metallic On your dry tongue.

Dearest Matilda

Perhaps one day

Someone will hold your hand

Like it fits well in their palms

But perhaps you were made

So singular your curves never

Had no mould. Dearest Matilda I know it ain’t right

But I won’t blame you

If you carry rocks in the pockets of your Suit when you go swimming.
