Awaiting

The anticipation of noise is deafening.

The waiting

is painful.

My brain feels like a pane of glass, and with each second that pierces the air,

a panic-stricken hammer, fueled by adrenaline,

releases itself upon my brain.

With each swing,

with each stroke.

The pane cracks,

blood seeping through,

awaiting the shattering impact.

Until

it feels as though it will perforate my skull

and fragment through

my soul,

my skull,

my senses,

my solitude.

Blood, anger, disappointment, and glass everywhere.

Such is the work of waiting.
