ALL WAS WORTH IT

-Dedicated to all those who won love-

By Bihansa Yenuli Wijesinghe Jayawardena

Early morning, I work up to leave home,

“Oh! it’s the time” Aththamma said,

Holding a glass of water and jasmine flowers in it!

Tick, tock, tick, tock,

Ivory Osariya draped around me,

Seven necklaces proudly glistening,

As if they were destined to be on me.

Drums and dancers magnifying the entrance,

While his arm, cold yet warm touched mine,

OH WAIT! My memories ran beneath the memory lane,

The first date we went, arguments we had,

cries we cried, busy days we had,

moments I felt lonely and yet hold on…

All was worth it!

Because it was already us and parents’ blessings,

Showering us with warmth!

While we said bye and left to OUR OWN HOME.

Aththamma- Grandmother in Sinhala language

Osariya- Traditional, national attire of women in Sri Lanka (Usually traditional brides wear)
