Alarming Forbidden Attractions

Original Submission by Danelle Miller

Alarming forbidden attractions

Why do I think of her all the time?

I don’t even understand

My girlfriend just broke up with me

Yet still my mind goes back to her

I tell you we are just friends

She’s been my friend even when I had a girlfriend

NO

I never thought about her then

And no I’m not lying

What’s really funny is the way she acts around me

She is not like the others

Others who look at me differently

Like a gaze from me, it makes them hyper

Sometimes I wonder

If she read my mind

Would she run and hide?

Be in pure disgust as I think of her

Not the one on whom they say broke my heart

Can she tell that I’m confused?

I try not to smile when she’s around

Not to laugh

When she cracks a joke

Does she read the meaning behind every look?

Am I normal?

Does she get that I’m trying so hard for her

For us

For a friendship that should last

But still, enough about her

I told my friends

I want my girlfriend back

They shake their heads

Saying I’m no good for her

Leaving me in the dust

Confused and disheartened

Am I the bad guy here?

Would I be good enough for her ?

I knew all along

In my heart

My ex wasn’t the one

And my heart longed for another

Was I stringing her along

Was our relationship worth it?

Did I not pay attention to her?

Why am I in the wrong in the sight of my friends?

I saw her yesterday

No, not her, but my ex-girlfriend

I tried to say hi

But surprisingly, she wouldn’t even look at me

Now I’m confused

Sitting in my room

I wandered

Did I do something wrong?

I swear I did no wrong

You could go to a judge for all I care

But the feeling from the day before

Will not be forgotten by me

I don’t think I’ve ever loved my ex-girlfriend

A couple weeks passed

I’m spending time with my friends

She’s always there but I’m always not

I got the resolve to speak with them

About my heart

My feelings on her

Obviously when she wasn’t around

I got terrible news you see

They told me to not speak with her

I’m no good for her

I’ll treat her like I did my ex

I told them how I felt and then they treat me so

I spoke of how I remained friends with her, just to keep her near

Never to break what I held so dear

But then they remained silent

Lo and behold,

She was there

With an angry look about her face and tears

Pouring from her summer set eyes

Was this my wrong?

Am I going to lose both girls and friends in the span of a year?

Does she hate me now?

Does she think I am not over the ex after all?

Does she think I’m no good for her?

When all I have done is think ever of her

My so called friends just stared

She stared angrily at them

Am I missing something here?

She then looked at me and I at her

She mumbled something under her breath

Then surprised me, really good

She closed the gap between me and her

Yes if you may guess

With a hug and a lovely kiss too
