Adolescent wish

Most of the time she thought about ways to sound cliche

What the right brand of eyeliner was and whether she could afford it

She thought of her mother

How all she could do was say “I love you” over and over again

And her father whose death had contorted like a grocery bag

She wondered about the possibilities

A life that seemed nothing like it’s isotopes

A world that seemed paperless

Both dismally irrational and dismally hopeful

She never fully knew which one it was

I hoped the second.
